Canadian philosopher Jean Vanier has said that community “enables us to welcome and help people in a way we couldn’t as individuals.” The Hoxton, Brooklyn’s newest hotel and hangout, sets itself apart from the rest, not only with its breathtaking views of Manhattan, interiors designed by Ennismore and restaurants — all of which it has in droves — but also with the sense of community it’s created.

The Hoxton hosts a calendar of cultural and lifestyle events, including fitness classes, workshops, exhibitions and talks. Its opening week, it held a live performance from Brooklyn Ballet in collaboration with Adidas and featured a customization station with local shop Jane Motorcycles. The Hoxton has also launched an impressive initiative called “Hox Friends,” which works to connect guests with locals through a curated selection of books and neighborhood guides found in each of the 175 rooms.

Perhaps coolest of all, though, is the hotel lobby shop, which sells one-off products and limited-edition items from Brooklyn-based brands like Forty Knots No Smoke and Sesame Letterpress Shop. Aptly named Best of Brooklyn, you’ll find branded candles, stationary and leather goods, among a selection of other picture-worthy products, in collaboration with local businesses.

The Hoxton may be the new guy in town, but they’ve already got Brooklyn down pat.
