“I have long been interested in Japan and its history and culture. My curiosity must have been piqued when I was a child, and my grandfather or parents would bring home a new piece of Japanese armor — which they collected and kept meticulously around the house. I remember being little and slightly intimidated by the swords, shields and suits…elaborate helmets and decorated plates. The details are beautiful and each serves a specific purpose, whether relaying status or adding an extra layer of protection. The oversized, boxy proportions have influenced our designs; in our Fall 2014 collection, we created a sweater inspired by a specific suit my parents had. For the relaunch of Ginza store, we created a capsule collection of hand-dyed dresses and tunics with the Japanese indigo dyeing company Buaisou. Buaisou has helped preserve traditional dyeing techniques that are centuries old.” — Tory

— Tory“
